Thurlow Cabin; Living Room
Lucy Hahn peered at the watch on her arm, she tried to remember how long it took her to get to the Cabin so that she would have enough time to get everything sorted before Frank Nelson showed up. She had already put Sebastian down for a nap in hopes that she could spend more time getting the Cabin ready.
“I can give you a ride home, you know?” Frank Nelson spoke as he watched Lucy linger around the bus stop. She cursed at the fact that she had to take the bus that day. How could she have locked her keys in her car, by the time she realized what had happened she was already going to be late. So instead Lucy rushed onto the nearest bus and headed to work.
Now she stood in the freezing cold, her long coat wrapped around her curvy body in hopes to keep the warmth in. Lucy Hahn spun around to see her boss standing behind her. His hands in his pocket and a genuine smile on his face. She blushed, he had been so nice to her already.
Lucy looked back at the bus stop, “I’m sure the bus will be here soon.”
Then she turned back to Frank and brushed her hair back. “But thanks.”
“That bus usually lags at this time of night and I wouldn’t mind giving you a ride Lucy,” His words seemed true, which made it harder for her to rebuff his requests. “You’re my employee, I can’t have you out here freezing. What kind of boss would I be?”
She chuckled. “I don’t want to put you out.”
“Put me out?” Frank chuckled. “Lucy, I am more than capable of taking you home and don’t worry about ‘putting me out’ think of it as a perk of the job. I overheard one of the girls talking about how you locked your keys in your car and had to take the bus. Honestly, I would have liked if you informed me of this earlier.”
“Would that have been useful for me being late for work and things not getting done?” She asked, skeptical of his response, she lowered her head in hopes that he wouldn’t push any further.
But Frank was persistent. “You should have told me something so that I didn’t keep you here longer than you needed to catch a bus. But that doesn’t matter right now Lucy, all that matters is that you get home. Like I said, that bus lags at this time of night, mostly because there really isn’t anyone out here that needs immediate pick-up.”
She knew he had a point and Lucy knew that she should have told her boss about her car problems. But this was one of her first jobs and since she had already been late for work, the secretary just figured it was only right to stay longer than her shift, to help him catch-up on his work.
Lucy looked at Frank, conflicted. “What about Deborah, don’t you think she will be concerned that you’re still not home from work?”
He stepped closer to Lucy. “Stop making excuses.”
The man’s words were so soft and delicate that it startled her, immediately. But she forced a smile that soon blossomed into more. As if his words had somehow formed around her and provided the heat that her body had so desperately needed.
There was an electric pulse between the two for the few moments that they made eye-contact. “I already told Debbie that I was going to stay in Now Town for the night, so I can come back here early in the morning. So there’s no need to worry about Debbie.”
Lucy gulped. “Alright.”
“Good.” Frank smiled. “How about we stop into a little restaurant I know for a bite to eat? I’m not taking ‘no’ for an answer!”
When he saw her face, he added, “My treat.”
Lucy snapped out of her thoughts as the lights in the Cabin went out, “Shit.”
Being thrust into complete darkness infuriated her as she hadn’t remembered the floor plan of the Cabin just yet, which caused her to fumble around the Living Room. She tried to regain her bearings, she knew that Frank would be there soon looking for Deborah and she needed to be prepared.
So instead of worrying about trying to get the lights working, Lucy stumbled around until she found the candles from earlier on the Kitchen counter and the matches in one of the drawers. Lighting the first candle, to guide her through the process, a wicked smile developed along with an idea.
“A candle lit evening for two.”

Stone Creek Memorial Hospital; 3rd Floor Waiting Room Number Four
Emily Roscoe doesn’t know how long the lights actually shut off, but it felt like hours as she waited alongside Bentley Wilkinson for them to turn back on. He assured her that whatever it was, wouldn’t be long and that they generators should kick in.
It wasn’t that she was engulfed in complete darkness that scared her, true, Emily had been afraid of the dark as a little girl. But today it was a welcome intruder, since she felt like all eyes were on her. Even though they weren’t even in the same Waiting Room as Caitlyn.
She scrunched her nose as the lights flickered on. “I just want to know about the test results.”
Bentley turned to her. “Everything is going to be alright, my mother told me about the history of this hospital and how reliable that their test results have been. There’s no test swapping or false results like in all those soap operas you were telling David about.”
Lucy shot him a glare. “I’m worried.”
“We both are.” He assured her.
Taking their own space for the next couple of minutes, Emily watched as hospital personal rushed through the halls and continued their everyday lives as she felt time start to come to a halt with every beating second that passed. Soon they were joined by Dr. David Schmidt who walked into the room.
“Are they in?” Emily asked, jumping from her seat.
Bentley stumbled behind her, offering his continued support.
“Not exactly.” David breathed. “As you know we are having some issues with the lights and it seems there’s a city-wide blackout on our hands. Yeah, the generators have kicked in but now we have to focus mostly on our top priorities, we have doctors in surgery and patients on monitors to attend to.”
“What does that mean for us?” Bentley licked his lips.
David frowned. “I’m sorry, but the lad we are conducting the results in is overwhelmed and we wont’ be able to get to your current DNA tests until tomorrow morning. I know that this is extremely nerve-racking Emily and I am doing everything in my power to get the results moving.”
She shook her head. “It’s fine David.”
“Once the full power is restored and we have everything accounted for-”
“Don’t worry about it.” Emily replied, she pulled on a smile. “I’ve waited this long not knowing who my parents were, what is a few more hours? Don’t make the results a priority David, I know you have more important things to account for so go ahead and do that.”
“You are more than welcomed to wait around here if you’d like.” David insisted.
“I think I just want to go home.” Emily looked up at Bentley, who wrapped his arms around his fiance. “After the day we’ve had, waiting around here would only add more stress and probably create more trouble than it’s worth. Will you call us as soon as you get the results?”
“The very second.” David promised.
Emily hugged the doctor and then turned to Bentley. “Let’s go home.”

“I want to stay.” Caitlyn Thurlow spoke from her corner in the Waiting Room, it was almost faint enough for the group who were huddled up next to David Schmidt to miss, but she stated it again with more drive and declaration. They all turned to Caitlyn. “I won’t get any rest at home. I need to stay.”
David shook his head. “We will get the results to you as soon as possible.”
James Thurlow turned to Deborah Nelson who shrugged. “If you need me to, I can stay with Caitlyn while you go and get a couple of your things?”
“Thanks.”
“We can’t just leave the hospital.” Caitlyn replied, it was the first time that she had uttered a word in hours and it almost scared the small group of three who had been resting with her. “I don’t want to miss the results, I need to know if Emily is-”
She stopped mid sentence, stuck in a trance.
“Go get her things.” Deborah turned to James. “Caitlyn will be fine here with me and really, there’s nothing I have to do anytime soon. Frank will understand once I get a hold of him that we need to be here for Caitlyn. Which reminds me, I don’t see why he isn’t here.”
“Of course.” Deborah sighed. “Well, then I won’t worry any about him.”
The two exchanged knowing looks as they proceeded to get everything wrapped up and send James on his way to get their things.
“How about I go with you.” Diem Joplin insisted, she grabbed her purse and after realizing that Iris Galloway was missing, she turned to James. “I can help you gather her things quicker and they really don’t need me to wander around this hospital.”
James nodded his head in agreement. “Yeah, of course Diem.”
“I just want to get back here as quick as possible.” James informed her, which didn’t surprise Diem one bit. She knew how much James cared for Caitlyn and had witnessed every breakdown that Caitlyn had; watching as James carried his wife through each one.
Diem smiled, falsely, secretly jealous she didn’t have anyone to do that for her when William destroyed her life so long ago. “Let’s be on our way then, shall we?”
They scampered out of the Waiting Room, leaving Deborah Nelson to turn to Caitlyn with a concerned look on her face. She glanced at her phone in case Frank had tried to text her, but found nothing. Not even the previous message that Iris had sent to Frank pretending to be Deborah.
But she wouldn’t have found that message anyways, since Iris deleted it.
Deborah sat next to Caitlyn, placing a hand on her back.

HEAT Headquarters; Elevator
The chuckling that escaped from Marina Thurlow’s mouth was coated with irony as she looked across the small space to see the one person that she shouldn’t be stuck in an elevator with. Ryan Bauer looked up at Marina, confused as to why she was so amused.
“We are stuck here in this elevator.” She replied, a deep sigh. “Do you know what happens in the movies when you get stuck in an elevator with anyone? Well, besides that horrible Devil movie, let’s hope that this isn’t one of those kill the sinner type of slasher movies.”
Ryan chuckled uneasily. “What is going on in that head of yours?”
When Marina stepped foot into the elevator she thought it was a coincidence that Ryan was in the same elevator as her. He was probably here to have lunch with Natalie to make-up for ditching her for all those weeks. It made Marina sick to her stomach that she had to picture the two of them together.
After all this time.
“We are not going to fall back in love out of this.” She shook her head, putting any thought of rushing towards Ryan and kissing him passionately on the lips. “This whole ‘being stuck in the elevator’ routine is old and tired Ryan. So don’t try to pull a fast one.”
He sneered. “Who says I would?”
“Because we shared a kiss on the pier.” She said matter-of-fact.
An awkward silence fell between the two of them as they both enjoyed the memory in their heads. Marina turned away from him, overcome with emotions. Had she wished this to come true? There had been instances when things she wished for had come true.
But having Ryan in arms reach, where nobody could see them.
Marina shook the thought. “Were you here to pick-up Natalie?”
He looked away. “What am I supposed to do? The woman that I want is deeply and madly in love with some clumsy idiot and there’s no way that I could come between that. Natalie Marlowe is not a close second, by any means. But she actually wants me.”
“Pathetic.” Marina mouthed.
Ryan tilted his head. “Survivalism.”
“What are you here for anyways? From what I remembered you hated your mother and didn’t want anything to do with her. Now you’re here in her building doing what? Taking a stroll?” He joked, watching as her expression changed to that of an annoyed child.
Marina folded her arms. “It’s none of your business.”
“A kiss.”
He stepped closer to her, but Marina stepped away. Her back against the elevator wall, cooling down as the metal braced her. “We have something.”
“What are you, nine?” Marina shook her head, she loosed her hands. “I’m with Ian and I can’t just drop our relationship all because we shared a kiss Ryan. That just isn’t how love is, that’s not how you determine a relationship. I know that it’s your technique, but not mine.”
“You left me for Ian.” He spat.
Marina scoffed. “I’m sure it was you who left me! I kissed Ian Kiefer, Ryan. I made the mistake of kissing the wrong guy and then you just left me!” She exaggerated. “Maybe it was for the best, maybe it was a huge mistake. But we won’t know now because I can’t leave him.”
“I can’t leave him for someone so uncertain.” She sighed.
Ryan approached Marina, cornering her in the elevator and placing a hand against the metallic wall above her head. He leaned into her, their eyes locked on the other person.
For so long this was what Marina had wanted, but she distracted herself with everything else in her life so that she had something to deny herself. She gulped. “I’m not about to be some mistake.”
Marina pushed away from him, wandering to her own corner in the elevator. She turned around to Ryan, his eyes still on her and she could tell her was already undressing Marina with his enticing eyes. With a deep breath she leaned down, feeling him approach once again.
She looked up, his face inches away from her’s she gave in
The taste of Ryan’s lips evading her senses, Marina lost control.

Before she could even collect her mind, or even stop herself, Cassie Lakhani elbowed the guard in the gut and knee’d him in the face. She turned away from the unconscious man and looked at her brother, Callum Lakhani, who seemed bewildered with what had just happened.
“What are you doing?” He shouted.
She turned back to the guard and noticed the keychain that was connected to his belt. The lights in the Police Station were still out so she knew that getting Callum out of the place would be easier. Reaching for the keys, Cassie ignored her brother’s pleas to stop.
Instead she shuffled across the room. “I need to get you out of here.”
“You really shouldn’t have done that.” Callum spoke, his eyes glued to the guard.
Cassie tried key-after-key to unlock the cell. “Callum, I know that it wasn’t your fault on New Years. There is an explanation and I want to help you figure it out. I want to help get you out of here and the only way to do that is to halt the trial.”
“You’re losing it!”
The sound of the door unlocking was music to Cassie’s ears as she swung the door open and pulled on her brother’s arm. But he stood in place, not wanting to follow through with his sister’s plan. “If you’re not here then they can’t prosecute you, Callum. We need to get you out of this cell!”
“We need to stay put.” Callum forced, he yanked away from Cassie. “You have a son to take care of Cassie, and I will not let you lose him. There’s no hope for me, I have to stay here.” He shut the door and hung against the cell bars.
This pained Cassie. “You’re a victim just like I am.”
“I’m not!” Callum shouted.
“But you are!”
“I shot you Cassie!” Callum shouted, this stopped her. “I shot Miles Fowler first and then when you stumbled across the scene, I knew I had to shoot you as well. Don’t you get it? Don’t you hear me? I shot you because I had to and there’s nothing that is going to get me out of here.”
Tears streamed down Cassie’s face as she backed up. “It wasn’t your fault, I know it.”
The lights flickered on, which had to be the result of the emergency generator and she knew that her shot of getting Callum out of the Police Station had come to an end. Her shoulder’s slumped as she turned to leave, coming face-to-face with the guard she knocked out.
“You’re under arrest.” He snarled.

The final candle was lit and Miles Fowler could see the Dining Room in all it’s glory. It seemed that after the lights went out, the intimacy level went up. Too bad he was at his fiance’s parent’s home and was waiting for Bentley and Emily to show up.
“Bentley called.” Greta Wilkinson spoke as she entered the room and spotted Miles.
He walked up to her and kissed her passionately, as if he hadn’t seen her in years. After the coma, he had learned to appreciate the time he could spend with Greta. “What did he say?”
She frowned. “The DNA results were put on hold because of the power outage. Dr. Schmidt told Bentley that he would notify him as soon as the results are in, but it looks like the dinner celebration might be ruined or at least put on hold until we hear anything.”
“Nothing’s ruined.” Penelope spoke, bringing out two bottles of champagne. “We still have all this alcohol. Besides, once you get that twig of a girlfriend, your brother is in love with, drunk. We will have plenty to celebrate.” She watched the horror in their faces. “Relax, it will be fine.”
“I just hope you’re right.”
But instead of continuing the argument, Penelope sat down at the Dining Room table and poured herself a glass of champagne, at least to calm her nerves. She had always despised the dark and a part of her had wondered how Grady was getting along.
It had been a thought, that really didn’t pass her mind these days.
“Once Bentley and Emily get here, we can start dinner.” Miles spoke up, he kissed Greta on the head and then joined Penelope for a glass. “Until then, I guess it really wouldn’t hurt to have a glass or two to relax. What do you say Greta?”
She sighed. “What better is there to do in a city-wide blackout?”
The door to the Cottage opened and closed, leaving the three of them to wonder who was home. Bentley Wilkinson popped out from the Foyer and looked at them. “I’m sorry that I’m so late. Emily wanted to go back to the apartment and get some rest.”
“That’s fine.” Greta insisted.
“Where’s Emily at?” Penelope asked. “I’ve got something extra special for her to pass the time!”
She hinted at the bottle of champagne in her hands.
“She actually wanted to sit this one out and just get some sleep.” Bentley revealed, he took the glass that his grandmother was offering and stood closer to the group. “This is really taking a toll on her. I hope you don’t mind if we just have dinner without her?”
“Not a problem.” Greta forced a smile, although she was worried for Emily.
Miles clapped his hands together. “Let’s get this night started!”

After the water filled the tub, Emily slowly stepped into it. The blackout had definitely caused her mind to race a hundred miles a minute so taking a nice warm bath was her main objective. She leaned against the wall and closed her eyes, the glow from the candles lightening her troubled face.
What if I had been Damien and Caitlyn’s daughter my entire life? Emily sighed, taking a deep breath.
“Danielle, come inside!” The voice of her mother called, standing on the Patio and looking out for the younger girl. She could hear her mother calling her in the distance, but Emily was so fascinated by the stream of guppy fish in their backyard. They lived in the Mountains, somewhere near Stone Creek.
The little girl turned once her mother called again. “Coming mother!”
She hollered out and jumped to her feet, bolting towards the older woman. A fit of laughter joined her jog as she flirted with the tall grass and raced the wind.
“Danielle, it’s dinner time!”
Once Emily appeared on the Patio the older woman put her hand on her hip and chuckled. “One day you will get lost in that Forest you call a playground and we won’t be able to find you! I’m glad that you can keep yourself entertained, but don’t break my heart and get lost.”
“I won’t, mother.” Emily pouted.
The woman bent her legs and brushed the strands of hair out of the little girl’s face. “Don’t pout, you’re not in trouble. Go wash up, alright my dear? I love you muffin.”
“Okay.” the little girl smiled again.
After rushing into the house and nearly knocking her mother over. Emily ran into her father who looked at her with a knowing smile, scuffed her hair and then motioned for her to wash up in the Bathroom. He made his way outside to the Patio where he found his wife.
“She’s going to be just fine, Caitlyn.”
The woman turned to face her husband, the look of worry falling out of her frown. “Oh Damien, what happens if we never see Danielle again?”
Emily felt her body sink into the tub so she jolted up. She knew the dream she had wasn’t real and that neither Damien or Caitlyn had actually known her when she was a little girl. But ti felt so easy to slip into the role of Danielle that it spooked her.
Would she have to change her name? She had always loved the name she was given.

“When we were younger,” Callum Lakhani spoke, his voice so sore from hollering at the police officers earlier for having to arrest his sister. He stepped closer to the bars and tried to make eye-contact with her, but she seemed so stuck in her own world.
Cassie looked at him, finally. “When we were younger I used to look up to you Callum.”
Her words seemed so distant, even to herself. The woman sighed, heavily at the memory of when they were little kids. Things hadn’t always been so heated between the two of them. Although their father, Stavros Lakhani, had made it apparent that they were as much twins as water and oil.
The jail cell was so cold, so Cassie wrapped the blanket they had accounted for around her thin body. She looked around the room and couldn’t believe she was now in jail. There would be firsts for everything, even for her she supposed.
“Do you remember when our dad used to take you away for camping trips?” Cassie asked, she mouthed her jealousy and caused the friction to be broken between the two of them. “Iliana would always tell me to stop being so green and that I didn’t want to go camping.”
Cassie avoided eye contact as her brother returned the gloominess to the room. His words so stern and filled with tense weight. “After awhile you started to have these rages that I couldn’t understand Callum. Mom told me not to worry about it.”
“Stavros was the reason I started having those rages.” Callum replied.
A frost overcame Cassie as she wrapped the blanket tighter and shuttered at the thought. “You don’t mean that Callum, I’m sure he didn’t mean to do anything wrong. He was always so stern when we were growing up that I think because you were the only boy-”
“No!” Callum raised his voice.
Cassie sat quietly.
He cleared his throat. “The reason why I always was so angry and difficult to handle growing up was because of that man and what happened when we would go camping Cassie.” He shook his head. “I shouldn’t even bring any of this up because it really doesn’t matter now.”
“What happened?”
The lights flickered on in the Police Station, causing the siblings to look around in fear. But they settled down once they realized that the emergency generator finally had kicked in. “What happened Callum? Did our father do anything to hurt you? Did he abuse you?”
Callum looked away.

Frank Nelson had arrived at the Thurlow Cabin. There was no sign of Deborah’s car anywhere, but he knew that it didn’t mean she couldn’t have parked it in the back. Maybe she was just scared that someone would see them there together?
He smiled at the thought of being alone with his wife again. It had definitely been awhile since they had made love, or even thought about it. He kept flashing back to her face when he arrived home and she was looking at the picture of the baby someone had sent her.
It wasn’t the fact that someone had sent the picture and accused him of having a child with Lucy Hahn. The thing that scared him was that it was deliberately sent to Deborah.
“Hello?” Frank called once her entered the house.
The main room was littered with lit candles, a romantic evening it would seem was in the making but after trying to turn the lights on he realized that the power must have been shot. Frank looked around the place and noticed that there had been no sign of Deborah.
Frank decided that upstairs is where he might find his wife and after searching all the rooms he turned his attention to the Main Bedroom, in hopes that he would find her there. But before he could open the door he heard someone downstairs.
“Debbie?” He called, making his way down the stairs. “Is that you Debs? I got your text message and jumped in the car. There’s so much we need to talk-”
There was no way he could finish his sentence as once he hit the bottom of the stairs, Lucy Hahn was standing there against the Front Door. A pair of pliers in her hands. “Lucy?”
“What are you doing here?” He asked, eyeing the pliers. “Where is Deborah?”
Lucy tilted her head, admiring his admiration for his wife. “She’s not here, don’t worry I wasn’t planning on doing anything bad to her. I just needed you here so that we could talk about a few things before we re-enter the real world tomorrow.”
She noticed that his eyes were glued to the pliers. “I had to kill your batter, I hope you don’t mind. There’s just no way that I could let you leave without talking to me first and I know that you’re still in love with your wife. So I had to make sure you heard me out, so I could change your mind.”
“You sent the text message?” He gulped. “I was hoping that you meant what you said and that you were going to Germany Lucy.”
“Oh, I will.” She shook her head, her eyes so devilish it scared him. “We are going there together.”

Diem & Leia’s Cottage.
Arriving at home, Diem searched the house for her daughter. After the blackout occurred her only worry was that Leia was alright. Especially after the two of them had finally started to bond. Diem was relieved that Leia had changed her last name back to Joplin.
She entered her daughter’s room and sighed, there was no sign of Leia anywhere. So she was probably still at work or covering a story about the blackout for Seth.
It pained Diem that Seth was Leia’s boss and that she felt like she was meddling in her daughter’s life by being attracted to Seth Keeler. But she really couldn’t help it. Diem dialed her daughter’s number in hopes to get a hold of her, to know if she was alright.
But the call went straight to voicemail.
How James and Caitlyn could want to be at the Hospital right now with all the chaos going on confused her. All Diem wanted to do was stay home and warm up some hot cocoa and bond with her daughter over stories from their unfamiliar pasts.
A knock at the door startled her. How could Leia forget her key already? Maybe she had left them at the station but didn’t want to double back to pick them up? It was a strange thought, but Diem just wanted to grab her daughter and lock her in the house.
The man stood in front of her, trying to keep a smile on his face. “I was hoping that you were here Diem, because there is something that you need to know.”
“What is it?” She asked, fearing the worst.
After inviting him into her home, she turned him around to tell her the truth. “Well, what is it Seth? What’s going on? Is it my daughter, Seth? Where is Leia?”
“It’s not Leia,” He started. “Actually it has everything thing to do with her father, William, Diem I don’t know if anyone has told you yet. But you really do need to know that William is back in Stone Creek and he is thinking of staying awhile.”
She covered her mouth. Suddenly the blackout didn’t seem so bad anymore.

Frank tried to keep his distance from Lucy, but the layout of the room and the small pockets of darkness was making it hard to maneuver around the room. “What are you talking about Lucy, what are you planning on doing with me tonight?”
She chuckled. “You’re joking right?”
“I just need to know!”
Taken back by how Frank raised his voice, she relaxed her shoulders. “Listen Frank, this has nothing to do with me hurting you in anyway. The truth is that I really have missed you and wanted to find a way to come back to Stone Creek and tell you this.”
“So you faked a move to Germany?”
“Oh, I’m going to Germany.” Lucy replied, she scrunched your nose. “But I had to make you think I was already there. I knew you wouldn’t meet up with me willingly Frank so I had to make you believe that I was out of your hair and far, far away.”
He eye’d her. “But why go through all of this trouble Lucy? Why send those pictures to Debbie? I am just assuming that the picture of the little boy was from you. That you tried to ruin my marriage to Deborah just to make her hurt? Why would you do something like that to anyway Lucy?”
“I needed you here at the Cabin and the only way that made sense was to make you believe that your wife wanted to make amends.” Lucy informed him, she held the pliers lightly in her hands as she danced around the room, following Frank’s moves. “But since the two of you had been living so ‘happily ever after’ I needed something to snap between the two of you.”
Frank shook his head as he stumbled over a couch and found Lucy upon him. “Get away from me!”
“I want us to be a family Frank.” Lucy sneered, pulling herself off of him and straightening her clothes. She turned away from him and set the pliers on the table. But quickly turned back to see him still on the couch. Obviously scared to make any sudden movements. “Lets go to Germany and be a family.”
“What are you talking about?”
A faint cry could be heard in the background, which Frank had not heard earlier because of his heightened fear of Lucy. He gulped as he could make it out to be that of a child and if that was true. Then it also meant that the picture Lucy had sent Deborah wasn’t fake.
“What’s upstairs Lucy?” Frank asked, looking up at the ceiling.
She smiled, devilishly. “Our baby. Sebastian.”

Bentley Wilkinson’s Apartment.
“Is anyone here?” Emily called out. She was sure that someone was in the Apartment as she heard someone enter while her bath was coming to an end. It was also so hard to tell, since the only light she had was coming from the candle in her hands.
Emily made a note to educate her fiance, Bentley, about the invention of flashlights whenever he decided to pop-out from behind one of the walls or furnishings. Once she was in the Living Room she noticed that the front door was opened, quickly she went to shut it.
The sound of the deadbolt was the only relief that she had experienced after the door was closed. She held the robe closer to her body as she fumbled with the candle and searched the pockets of her garment for her cell phone --which she left in their bedroom.
Her eyes widen once a figured appeared in front of her in the Hallway. She cried out in fear, knowing that the amount of time it would have taken her to unlock the door and get away would not help her. So instead she charged towards the man as he ran to her.
“No!” She shouted, tossing the candle at him. But the was didn’t do much to burn him and the candle tumbled into the Hallway, the wick out and engulfing the two of them in darkness. Emily managed to get away from him for a second, but the figure pulled her hair and forced her into the Kitchen.
How could this be happening? Emily scuffled to her feet as she trained her eyes to meet the man’s gaze. He was definitely nobody she had ever seen before. Which made her wonder why eh was so adamant about hurting her. “What do you want?”
Emily backed up into the Kitchen counter. Her robe dangled around her frail body and her PJ’s clung to her skin as she sweated out fear. Where was Bentley when she needed him most and for a second she closed her eyes and wished him there.
She wished that she had never wanted to come home. Knowing that mere hours ago she was at the Hospital in the light of the back-up generators and decided wether or not she wanted to stay and so badly now, she had wanted to stay. Emily leaned against the counter as the man approached her.
Her hands roamed the top of the counter as she kept her eyes on him. She could feel his breath upon her as she grabbed at the nearest appliance and ripped the cord from the wall, bringing it across his face and watching as he fell to the ground.
“Bentley!” Emily shouted.
The tears in her eyes stung with adrenaline as she ran towards the door of the Apartment and fumbled with the lock, banging on the door in the process in hoping that someone would hear her. But nobody was coming to her rescue. Turning around she saw the man grab at her body.
Emily tried to fight him off, but he was way too powerful, even after a blow to the head. “Stop! Please, stop.”
She begged for the man to leave her alone, her cries and shouts left on deaf ears as she bit the inside of her mouth and tasted the metallic taste of blood. The man tossed her over the couch and Emily fell onto her back, hitting her head on the coffee table.
The figure sat on top of her as she weakly pounding her arms against him. “Don’t do this to me, I’m not the person you want. I want to live! I want to live!”
“You’re right.” The man finally spoke.
Emily stopped screaming, choking on her tears.
“You’re not the one I want.” He spoke, pulling a knife from his pocket. “But sometimes, we can’t help what happens to us in the name of love. And I’m sorry to say this, but tonight, tonight you have to die.”
“No!” She shouted, her voice scratching the back of her throat as the man brought the knife down into her stomach. Blood began to rush out and Emily stopped fighting the man. There was nothing she could do. Everything started to flash around her.
Her eyes fluttered closed as she began to see Damien and Caitlyn laughing at a dinner table. They looked so happy to be there, so full of joy that she wanted to be there with them and she was. The little girl, who was about eight years old was there with them. Laughing as if nothing bad was ever possible.
Emily smirked, she felt no pain. There was nothing left for her to feel as she slowly slipped away.
