History
The eldest of the four Kern boys, Taylor Kern, had a very close relationship with his mother, Myra Jane, while he grew up in October Falls. His father, Roy, was mostly at work and had little to do with the children growing up -- which really took a toll on their mother, eventually Taylor began to help Myra take care of his younger siblings while Roy was away from the house. He first discovered his sexuality with a childhood friend who used to come over and spent the night while they were teenagers. At first, Taylor feared what his father would say and he became reclusive, focusing on his studies at school. When things became too complicated Taylor graduated from High School a year early and left October Falls behind for college at the age of Seventeen.
While away from his family he began to explore his sexuality freely and found it exhilarating being on his own, of course this also caused him to lose contact with his family. As Taylor gained experience and found his stride in life, he retained a playboy reputation around school. Although his work never suffered from his philandering ways, it wasn’t until 2004 that he actually began his first long-term relationship with a guy named Harrison Guthrie who he considered his equal intellectually. Taylor began getting lost in Harrison and clung to this new commitment. Their relationship worked in many ways, often spending time alone studying for midterms, or researching. It wasn’t until 2005 that they made their relationship official and Taylor couldn’t be anymore happier.
The year 2006, sent Taylor hurtling back into reality when his younger brother, Mackenzie, finally got in touch with Taylor and angrily went to go see him -- accusing Taylor of walking out on his family. Mac found Taylor in bed with Harrison, and although Taylor begged his younger brother not to tell anyone -- Mac left the next day and informed their family that Taylor was in fact gay. He wouldn’t hear from any of his family members until the following year when Mac found his brother once again and apologized for the way he treated the situation. The brothers bonded, but while Mac spent a weekend in Taylor’s dorm, the new found bond didn’t stop Harrison from coming onto Mac. Although the truth devastated Taylor, he witnessed Harrison in a drunken stupor and broke-up with him the next day. He transferred school the following semester and after graduating, he stole a job at James & Co. Law Firm where he stood for a couple years before leaving the Law Firm and venturing into literature.
Taylor travelled the world, spending much time penning his first novel and marketing it to publishers. Although his first novel didn’t garner him any awards he managed to snag a very in-demand publisher in Westfield Publications and started penning his second book. He tried to get back into the dating field, but the hurt that Harrison caused him would be his greatest downfall. After finishing his second book, Taylor located his younger brother Mac and showed up in Stone Creek at the young man’s doorstep.
Start of the Series...
Taylor found an apartment in town in 2011 and got in-touch with the Cuttlebone City branch of Westfield Publications, Taylor was in-charge of a small book signing in Stone Creek. He went to go see Charlie Sutton in hopes that the man could set-up a small book signing at the Lakeside Inn. But Charlie’s schedule was booked so he asked Aidan Jurado to help Taylor set-up the signing, Taylor became enamored with the english man.
While looking for a roommate, Desiree Roberts, found Taylor’s want ad and asked to move-in. At first she had thought Taylor was a woman and had reservations about moving in with him. After ‘Dizzy’ mistook Taylor’s charm for flirting he ‘came out’ to her and they started to bond. Now that Taylor had settled into Stone Creek, he began to bond with his younger brother once again and with Dizzy, the three of them became a trio of close friends -- hoping to find love where they saw fit. While Dizzy tried to help Mac win back Cassie Lakhani, Taylor pinned after Aidan. Eventually he spent much of his time trying o get Aidan to admit he felt an attraction to Taylor, even after Aidan began dating Amanda Tucker. He became depressed when roommate, Dizzy, and his brother began dating.
On New Years Eve, while Amanda was away for the Holidays, Aidan and Taylor shared a kiss and although Taylor was adamant about Aidan’s feelings for him -- Aidan denied that the kiss meant anything. Unbeknownst to taylor, Aidan can’t stop thinking about the kiss and while he throws a housewarming party for himself, he tells his cousin Kirsten about kissing Taylor. Amanda overhears and rushes out, informing Aidan that she has to get to work. While on a jog through Sage Gardens, Taylor bumps into Amanda and apologizes, while getting acquainted, they both exchange names, unknowingly both meet the one person standing in their way to keeping Aidan’s heart. Amanda promptly broke-up with Aidan over his kiss with another man.
Once realizing the mistake, Taylor, made his way to Aidan’s condo to apologize for telling Amanda about who he was and admitted to realizing who she was after the fact. He thanks Aidan for everything he did for him and admits that he didn’t think Aidan would ever choose him. Aidan interrupted his apology with a kiss and pulled the man into his condo. Their initial relationship began with Aidan trying to slip into being openly gay, but his struggle with being out in the open and affectionate towards Taylor nearly broke them up. After a horrible encounter at the gym, Taylor informed Aidan that he didn’t have to ‘come out’ to everyone, but had to change the way he treated Taylor while out in public. With his cousin’s advice, Aidan agreed to change the way he acted towards his ‘boyfriend’ and in Christmas 2012, Aidan informed Taylor that he wanted to tell his family about them being a couple.
