Marina & Cassie’s Condo.
“I feel safer now that we changed the locks.” Cassie Lakhani spoke, mainly to insure her own fears. She placed a broken vase on the counter and watched as Marina frowned. The vase was a present to Marina from Ryan Bauer.
Turning away, Marina put her cereal bowl in the sink and turned the water on. “That’s the vase Ryan gave to me.”
“I know.” Cassie replied, solemnly. She looked around the place, most of the house was cleaned up. There were a few things that needed work though. Cassie looked at Marina. “Have you talked to Ryan lately?”
The youngest Thurlow shook her head. “I tried to get a hold of him when Greta told me that he left town. But his phone has been disconnected.” Marina dried off the rinsed bowl and put it in the dishwasher. “I wouldn’t blame him for leaving without saying goodbye.”
“I think right now you need to focus on your family, anyways.” Cassie insisted. She caught Marina’s eye and knew her friend didn’t want to bring up the conversation so she changed the discussion around. “I can’t believe I’ve been pregnant for eight months already.”
Marina straightened up. “Has it been that long? Time flies when you are going through shitty times, doesn’t it?”
“Cheer up?” Cassie suggested, she took another look at the apartment. “Since I don’t necessarily have a job right now I suppose I can finish cleaning this place. What time did you say you had work?”
“I didn’t.” Marina’s eyes bulged as she looked at her watch. “Shit! I’m late again.” Kissing her best friend’s cheek Marina stopped only to rub her stomach and grab her jacket.
Watching Marina leave, Cassie sighed. If only Marina Thurlow knew the reason why their apartment got broken into. Then she would know that Cassie was afraid to be left alone.
Cassie put her hands on her stomach. “How does mozart sound? Yeah I didn’t think so either.” She responded to a kick from her stomach. “I guess it is Lady Gaga again. We need new music selections kid.”
She then returned to cleaning.

Scene Two:
341 Wallow St., Stone Creek.
David, Helen & Gail’s Home.
Gail Schmidt had a conflicted expression on her face today. She looked at her father who was cooking breakfast and then leaned against the table and her right arm. “Have you seen Helen lately?”
Dr. David Schmidt looked back at Gail and then returned to cooking. “She has been working late on something. You know how Helen is, she doesn’t do the whole eight-hours of sleep thing.”
“That’s not healthy.” Gail replied, she spotted a magazine on the table and picked it up. It was a parenting magazine and she hadn’t seen it before. Gail looked at her father suspiciously but decided against bringing the topic up.
“It isn’t healthy.” David responded. “Why the sudden interest in Helen? Not that I mind much, I still would like the two of you to get along. You just haven’t taken much mind to her lately.”
Gail rolled her eyes behind her father’s back. “You’re my father and she is your wife.”
“That didn’t stop you before.” David spoke, immediately he felt like an asshole and turned around to redeem himself. But couldn’t find the words to say sorry for taking a jab at her.
His daughter knew he meant no harm though, she waved it off. “That was ten years ago. I would like to think I’ve grown-up a little between then. Listen daddy, there is a reason that Adrian and I broke-up.”
“You don’t need to explain yourself.” David replied, trying to make up for his remark. “I trust that you had perfect reason for what happened. I don’t need to know the hairy details.”
“I was pregnant.” Gail spoke, this caused David to stop in his tracks. She knew this would be a long conversation.

Scene Three:
2634 W. Parker St., Stone Creek. Callahan Condos #15
Marina & Cassie’s Condo.
“I’m coming!” Cassie Lakhani spoke as she placed a basket on the nearest couch and wobbled to the door. For a minute she hesitated answering it, thinking it could be one of Inez’s henchmen. If she had henchmen that was.
Looking through the peephole, Cassie’s heart sunk.
“We need to talk.” Audrey Briggs spoke when Cassie opened the door. Audrey didn’t waste much time to be invited in, she simply stepped past Cassie and looked the place over. “Spring cleaning?”
“It’s nothing.” Cassie replied, lowly.
Audrey couldn’t help but feel so out of place in Cassie Lakhani’s home. It seemed like it was once a nice cozy place. One where you would raise a family. Today it wasn’t that sort of place. It looked like it had been dis-shelved.
“How can I help you?” Audrey locked eyes with Cassie, determined.
“I need to discuss the way my husband looks at you.” Audrey spoke, she then looked at the baby. “Well to be honest, we need to discuss how he looks at that!” The clarification caught Cassie off-guard.
This Audrey noted, her heart sank.
“It is his, isn’t it?” Cassie shook her head, denying the allegation. “I looked into your employment with my husband’s club and you’re not on the payroll Cassie. There shouldn’t be any real reason the two of you are ever together.”
Standing in front of Audrey, there was never a time that Cassie Lakhani felt so abandoned. She didn’t know what to say to Audrey Briggs. There wasn’t a word she could say to comfort the woman.
Because the only thing Audrey wanted to hear was that the baby wasn’t Clifton’s. But those were words that Cassie couldn’t mutter. Not even to Audrey. The old Cassie would tell the truth. She wouldn’t lie.
“It isn’t his.” Cassie said, surprising herself.
Audrey pulled her hands out of her face. There was a look of disgust slapped across her face. “Then what is going on between you and my husband? Huh? Do you ever talk about me?”
Cassie motioned towards the couch, but Audrey denied the invitation. “Sometimes. Most of the times we do talk about you.” Cassie corrected. She had hoped this situation would have never come, but who was she kidding? Cassie was a fool to think that Audrey wouldn’t assume anything was wrong.
Audrey cocked her head. “Did he ever tell you that I can’t conceive children?” Sympathy is plastered all over Cassie’s face. It seems to have taken the place of Cassie’s dignity. Audrey takes note of this as well. “You’re pathetic.”
“You don’t know what happened!”
A gurgle of laughter burst from Audrey. “It doesn’t matter what happened or didn’t happen Cassie!” Audrey turned away from the younger woman. “The only thing that matters is that neither of you thought it was wise to include me in this.”
Cassie watched as Audrey passed her and headed for the door. The confrontation seemed to be hitting it’s ending. Turning around, Cassie braced herself.
“You can have him.” Audrey grabbed a hold of the door knob. “He hasn’t been mine for the past eight months it seems. So you can have him to yourself. That was supposed to be my child and you took that too.”
When Audrey slammed the door shut. Cassie found herself falling onto the couch. A huge rush of emotions slammed into her body so hard that she couldn’t catch her breath. Part of her wanted to follow Audrey and explain the whole situation.
But she knew it wouldn’t help. Audrey wouldn’t listen to the woman who got knocked up by her husband. Cassie felt so dirty just thinking about it. It wasn’t her fault. She wasn’t in control of herself that night.
Cassie looked around the apartment. Who was she to think that things wouldn’t get messy? Who was she to think that Clifton could save her but maintain his wholesome family?
She hated herself. A tear dropped down her cheek. This wasn’t the old Cassie Lakhani at all. The baby boy inside of her was doing it’s best to change that. She should have known there was beauty in walking away.

Scene Four:
Stone Creek Police Station
Clifton Briggs walked into the Police Station, a place he didn’t normally visit. Especially because most of his under-the-table deals he had going on at all times. But today he needed information.
Keeping pace with the busy officers walking around, Clifton looked for Gideon Wilkinson. The two weren’t exactly friends in the “social game” of Stone Creek. But they knew of each other’s existence.
Which was probably still a bad thing.
“Can I help you?” Miles Fowler asked, his hands on his belt.
Clifton looked up at Miles. “Chief Wilkinson’s office?”
Miles looked Clifton up and down before he motioned to the room behind him, Miles watched as Clifton looked at the door. “He shouldn’t be too busy right now. It’s too early in the day for crime in the city.”
“Right.” Clifton replied. “I wont be taking much of his time.”
Once Clifton got passed Miles Fowler he knocked on the door in hopes that Gideon was indeed in the office like Miles had said. Clifton could feel his stomach in knots. How was he supposed to explain why he was there to talk about Cassie Lakhani?
“Clifton Briggs.” Gideon greeted, he offered his new guest a seat. “What can I do for you today Mr. Briggs? I hope there hasn’t been any problems at that club of yours recently.”
There was animosity with the words, this caused Clifton to become anxious. “No, actually this has to do with a young woman named Cassie Lakhani. Her place got ransacked last night.”
Gideon nodded. “I know, I sent some of my men over to check-out the damages. Tell me though, why do you have any interest in the Lakhani case Mr. Briggs? I didn’t think you two had any affiliations.”
“She modeled for one of my advertisements a couple months back.” Clifton lied, he wrung his hands out. “I actually have a lead on who broke into her place.” He watched Gideon’s body movement.
“Who would that be?”
Clifton placed the note on Gideon’s desk. “A woman named Inez.”

Scene Five:
Sage Garden’s; Alice’s Haven Cafe.
“How is everything going at the Inn?” Kirsten Sutton asked, the words seemed like an excuse to not talk about the fight she had with her husband the other day. Kirsten could tell that Charlie caught on.
Charlie leaned against the counter and smiled at Kirsten, kissing his wife on the lips. She briefly pulled back and looked around the room . “Things are going alright. I think the fact that you helped with the success of the Founder’s Ball there, business has bloomed.”
Although Kirsten was flattered, she was still mad. “I’m really glad that both of our business’ are blooming. I’m glad that our dream of financially stabling Megan is starting to look like a possibility.”
“It wouldn’t be so hard if my father helped us a little.” Charlie seethed.
Kirsten shrugged. “In due time things will start looking up in all prospects of our lives.” The enigma of an answer intrigued Charlie but Kirsten wasn’t telling anymore. She didn’t need Charlie getting angry that she was helping Patrick bring their family’s together.
“Have you noticed how Caitlyn has been getting attached to Megan lately?” Charlie spoke. He turned away from Kirsten, looking at everyone in the room. “She offered to pick up Megan from school.”
“It’s good for her.” Kirsten replied, she tugged at Charlie’s arm and caused him to turn back around. “Caitlyn needs a distraction right now and being with Megan is helping her deal with not knowing where Danielle is.”
“You’re right.” Charlie replied, kissing his wife once again. He let all his worries go and pulled away from the kiss with a huge smile. “I don’t want us to be mad anymore Kirsten. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
The doors to Alice’s Haven Cafe opened and to Charlie’s fears Adrian Stone walked in. The married couple knew things were only going to get worse before the got over the Adrian issue.

Scene Six:
Stone Creek Park
Diem Joplin stopped in her tracks as she saw Caitlyn Thurlow pushing Megan Sutton on the swings. Looking at her friend James she smiled sweetly. “We need to do something James. Look at her, she is a natural.”
James knew that Diem was right. He watched his wife as she laughed along with the giggling little girl. They seemed perfectly happy in the other’s presence. Megan brought out a certain light in Caitlyn.
A light that James hadn’t seen in awhile.
“But what do we do?” James asked, turning back to Diem. “How do we find out where Damien Crenshaw is hiding Danielle? Where do we look first? I mean I know she is here in Stone Creek. But this place isn’t the small town that it once was!”
“I know.” Diem replied. “We need to come up with a plan first. Obviously Danielle couldn’t have been here longer than Caitlyn has been here. I think that would be too much of a coincidence.”
As the two walk up closer to Caitlyn, she locks her eyes on them. Knowing that they both were talking about her. She looks back at Megan and suggest the girl go play on the jungle gym for a bit while she talks to James and Diem.
The girl complies and runs off.
“What is going on?” Caitlyn asked, dusting her hands on her jeans. “I know that look, like you both are keeping a secret from me. Have you found any leads on Danielle? Should I talk to Damien again?”
Diem shook her head. “He isn’t going to help us like I thought he would.”
“The bastard just likes messing with you.” James seethed. He opened his mouth to continue but decided against asking why Caitlyn married him in the first place. He knew she had an answer that he didn’t want to hear.
“Then what do we do?” Caitlyn asked, eyeing James. Suspicious of the words he was going to speak a minute ago. Slowly her attention focused back on Diem Joplin. “What do you recommend we do?”
Diem licked her lips and started her sentence with a sigh. “We find her ourselves. I don’t think Danielle has been living in Stone Creek prior to your move to the city. So we need to figure out how many women moved to Stone Creek who are in their late 20’s to early 30’s.”
Caitlyn didn’t feel like they would get anywhere with that information. She grumbled and turned around to find Megan. “The city is home to a college you guys. Do you know how many people move to this city every month?”
“We will find her.”
Caitlyn furrows her brow, she then turned to the others urgently. “Where’s Megan?” Her heart began to pound heavily. Caitlyn told Megan to stay at the jungle gym. Well at least she thought she did.
She jumped into panic mode and jogged over to the jungle gym yelling Megan’s name while James and Diem did the same thing. How would Caitlyn tell Kirsten and Charlie that she lost their daughter just like she lost her own.
They would never forgive her.
Caitlyn spun around, listening to the children’s laughter. She could spot a few parents looking at her strangely, some even looked around for their own children, ushering them out of the play area.
“Megan!” Caitlyn yelled. She had to find the young girl.
“We will find her.” Diem spoke, more to convince herself than anything else. The clarification didn’t calm Caitlyn down one bit. “I’ll check the bathrooms.”
Caitlyn nodded in agreement.
James was already on his phone, calling 911. This left Caitlyn on her own to find the little girl. She dodged out of the pit of sand and onto the wet grass. Almost losing her grip in the process.
“Megan!” Caitlyn shouted again. How could she lose Megan? How could she be so stupid? She was so wrapped up in trying to find her own daughter that she lost another child? Maybe she shouldn’t find Danielle. Maybe she would lose Danielle again?
Caitlyn hurried towards the parking lot. What if some maniac grabbed her and tossed her in their car. Caitlyn slipped onto a car causing the alarm to go off and scaring her out of her skin.
“Megan!”
“I’m right here.” Came the voice of the little girl. Caitlyn spun around. “I’m right here grandma Caitlyn. I was just getting an ice cream.”
Caitlyn grabbed at her chest. Feeling her heart speed up even more than before. She was so glad to see that Megan Sutton was alright. But the little girl wasn’t alone. Caitlyn’s face fell when she saw Damien Crenshaw smiling back at her.
“Stay away from her.” Caitlyn spit, pulling the little girl towards her. Caitlyn turned back around at the sound of her name. James and Diem were hot on her trail.
James Thurlow wedged himself between Caitlyn and Damien. Causing his wife’s ex-husband to lock eyes with him. “What are you doing here Damien?” James asked, he could feel Caitlyn grasp his hand.
“This is my home too.” Damien replied.
Jaw clenched, James glared at him. “You might live in Stone Creek now, but this will never be your home. So please stay away from my family while you are here. Megan is my granddaughter and Caitlyn is my wife.”
Damien smirked. “She was mine first.” He watched as Caitlyn lowered her head in shame. “You two have a nice day. It’s a beautiful day to act like a complete family.” His eyes flickered.
A gulp from James ended the conversation. He turned to Caitlyn and pulled her in his arms. Then kissed Megan on the head and pulled them both into a hug once again. “I’m sorry about that.”

Scene Seven:
Sage Garden’s; Alice’s Haven Cafe.
“She what?” Kirsten Sutton barked, trying to keep her calm was definitely out the window as her father, James Thurlow retold the story of what happened earlier. Placing the towel over her shoulder, Kirsten put her hands on her hips.
James knew this would anger Kirsten. “Caitlyn feels extremely guilty about this whole thing. You know what she is going through right now and she is having a hard time dealing with it.”
“I trusted her to take care of my daughter.” Kirsten explained. She felt so foolish telling Charlie that Megan would be safe with Caitlyn. Kirsten was relieved to know that Megan was alright. But she dreaded to think about what could have happened. “I understand what she is going through daddy, but what if that Crenshaw man wasn’t around to find Megan?”
“Kirsten, just listen to me.” James pleaded.
But Kirsten had heard the last of the conversation. “I don’t want her alone with my child right now dad. If I need a babysitter I will call Marina or Cassie Lakhani. Neither of them have lost my child!”
James felt as if telling Kirsten about what happened was a bad decision. Folding his arms to think about the situation he felt lost. What if Kirsten was right about Caitlyn? What if Damien Crenshaw wasn’t around? Where would Megan be?
He shook the thoughts out of his head. He needed to go home and be with Caitlyn and comfort her so she didn’t feel so alone.

Scene Eight:
Stone Creek Ledger.
Marina Thurlow sighed as she put them pen down and looked around her desk. A smile came over her as she picked up a picture of herself with her father, James Thurlow and her step-mother, Caitlyn.
Then the smile faded and was replaced with dread. She knew she did the wrong thing by going behind Caitlyn’s back and running the article. Marina felt so bad about what she did. Caitlyn had always been like a mother to her.
Far more than her real mother, Helen Schmidt.
She knew what she had to do, grabbing her coat she vacated her seat and left the building. But then she froze as she watched Caitlyn Thurlow approaching her. Both woman linked eyes.
Frozen in place.
“I was just on my way to see you.” One woman spoke. The other braced herself for the confrontation that was surely coming ahead.
Marina’s eyes began to water. “How do you tell someone, who has tried their hardest to make your life the best it could be, sorry?” It was a question that she was asking herself for hours.
“That article you wrote is inexcusable.” Caitlyn Thurlow spoke, pulling her coat closer. “I have always treated you like my own daughter Marina. After everything that happened with your mother I felt that was one thing you deserved.”
“I am so sorr-”
Caitlyn cut her off. “I’m not finished yet.” Marina dropped her head. “I have always respected you as an intelligent and mature young woman. You’re gorgeous and charming, it’s remarkable how much you remind me of your father. But what you did? Go behind my back, scheme your way into a promotion at work?”
There wasn’t anything that Marina could reply with. She knew this was the verbal lashing she deserved from the woman she called her mother. Like a child being scolded, Marina just listened.
“I’m ashamed in you.” Caitlyn Thurlow approached Marina and took her hand. “I’ve seen the way your father has raised you Marina and I thought you knew better than what you did.”
Marina teared up, her eyes darting to Caitlyn’s. “I’m sorry.”
There was silence between the two as Caitlyn Thurlow tried to find words of encouragement. But after the morning she had with Megan and Damien she just couldn’t think straight.
“I know.” Was all she could say, turning to leave she left Marina alone on the steps to beat herself up over her actions against Caitlyn. She knew what she did, Marina jeopardized Caitlyn’s position on the city council with her article.
There was only one place to go.

Scene Nine:
507 Auburn Rd., Stone Creek.
Gideon & Daphne’s Home.
Gideon Wilkinson arrived home, placing his coat in the hall closet and wandered around the house looking for his wife. If he had her schedule right then Daphne Wilkinson should be home.
He stepped into the kitchen, the smell of home made supper filling his nostrils. He didn’t think that Daphne would have the time to make dinner with her busy schedule. But days like this she surprised him.
“I’m telling you, being the wife of the chief of police can get kind of lonely. There were times in my marriage that I just couldn’t take it and those were the hardest times. But then again I was never a doctor like yourself, I was just a flimsy nurse who got herself into a lot of trouble.”
Then it hit him, of course Daphne Wilkinson didn’t make the dinner. The voice that was so etched into his brain was that of his, “Mother.” Penelope Wilkinson turned around with a welcoming smile. “When did you get back into town?”
Penelope sighed, with a glass of wine in her hand she hugged Gideon. “I had to cut my cruise short. Can you believe they didn’t have any decent wine on board? They said we were traveling around the world and all they brought was the cheap american stuff? I wasn’t having it!”
Gideon chuckled. “Well I am glad to have you back.” He looked at his wife who was seated next to the chair that Penelope left vacant. “I see you’ve been keeping my wife company.”
“You know I love having time alone with Daphne.” Penelope went back to her daughter-in-law and placed her glass on the counter. “She’s always been the most fascinating of my daughters that is for sure. By the way have you heard from your sister? Because I haven’t!”
Gideon chose to avoid the topic. “Are you staying for dinner mother?”
Penelope looked at Gideon. “Staying? I made the dinner!”
About ten minutes later the family settled into the table and began passing the food around. Gideon couldn’t help but smile at the familiarity of the whole situation, he had missed his mother’s cooking.
It always took him back to his childhood. When Grady and Penelope Wilkinson took him into their home and later adopted him.
“How was work?” Daphne Wilkinson asked her husband.
Gideon looked around the table. “It was interesting to say the least.”
“Then say more!” Penelope snapped with a smile.
He looked between both women, scolding his mother for prying into someone else’s business but he continued anyways. “Somebody broke into Marina Thurlow’s apartment the other day. At first I thought it was a random robbery.”
“But?”
This was the part that stumped him. “Clifton Briggs came forward with a possible suspect today while I was at the station.”
Daphne furrowed her brow in confusion. “Well that’s strange, why would Clifton Briggs be involved with the break-in? I didn’t even think he knew Marina Thurlow personally.”
Gideon shook his head. “He doesn’t, not outside of the social ladder that is. He seems to have a unique relationship with her roommate Cassie Lakhani though. It seems the two are friends.”
Penelope rose from the table. “Mother what’s the matter?” Gideon asked, concerned.
“I need more wine if I’m going to have to be playing detective tonight.” She answered entering the kitchen and leaving the married couple amused by her snoopy behavior. they both went back to the conversation in hopes to make something stick.

Scene Ten:
1509 Mango Ln., Stone Creek
Clifton & Audrey’s Home.
Clifton Briggs was welcomed home with a vase against the wall. The dirt flying in every direction as he ducked. He was glad his reflexes were quick. But confused at what was going on inside the house.
Re-opening the front door he watched as his wife elegantly descended down the stairs. Tears staining her eyes from what seemed like hours of crying. There was a lump at the back of his throat.
“Do you know what I have been trying to wrap my mind around?” Audrey Briggs spoke, she arrived at the bottom of the stairs where a couple bags have been filled with what seemed like his clothes. “How the hell do I tell my family that my darling husband had been lying to me for months.”
A devious chuckle erupted her throat as she picked the bags up. “How do I tell myself that this has nothing to do with a child that I can never have? Because I know this has everything to do with that child that Cassie is carrying.”
Clifton tried to hold his wife’s hand, but she pushed him away. Placing the bags close to the door. Her eyes looked on at Clifton. “When were you going to tell me this? Where you just hoping that I wouldn’t find out?”
He didn’t know what to say. Before him was the love of his life and she was devastated. It was a nightmare come true. “It was an accident.”
Audrey shook her head. “Don’t waist your breath right now Cliff I already talked to your pregnant mistress and she already pleaded with me. Cassie already confirmed what I have been dreading for so long.”
“You are the love of my life.” Clifton pleaded.
But Audrey was already too cold to her husband to take the bait. “You made me feel paranoid and evasive Clifton. That’s not love I don’t know what that is but that is definitely not love.”
“It was only one time!” Clifton barked, he turned around to watch Audrey grab her bags. “There hasn’t been any sexual tension between us since. We don’t love each other. I love you!”
“That’s nice Clifton.” Audrey spoke, the venom filling the air. “But right now I’d love a divorce.”
The pain was noticeable as she dried her eyes once more and struggled to open the door. When Clifton tried to help her she pushed him away. In an instant Audrey was gone.
The love of his life was out the door and Clifton didn’t know what to do. Did he follow her? Audrey wouldn’t listen to a word he would tell her. She had always been emotionally driven. That’s what made him fall in love with her.
But he broke her. Sitting at the bottom of the stairs it all made sense to him. He was now alone in the home he built for them. Audrey didn’t pack his bags to kick him out. She packed her own to escape their life.

Scene Eleven:
2121 Mason St., Stone Creek. Hoffman Village Apartment #34
Ian’s Home.
Ian Kiefer didn’t know what to make of his life. He seemed to be coasting by on most days. With school almost over and the gym pretty much running itself these days. He didn’t feel like anything was intriguing enough to keep his attention.
Until the knock at the door he hadn’t really had any visitors. When he answered it he was surprised to see Marina Thurlow there. Soaked in her own tears, with her purse clutched in one hand.
She looked like a lost little puppy.
“What’s wrong?” Ian asked, moving out of the way so that Marina could step into the apartment. She didn’t say a word. Just stood right in front of Ian. Their eyes locked on one another.
He didn’t know what to make of the situation. They last left things extremely uncertain. He poured out his heart and she told him that they couldn’t be together. But here she was. Right in front of him.
Marina leaned into Ian. A kiss he was certain he needed. Locking lips Ian felt like the luckiest man on the planet. He pulled Marina closer to him and the two began to make-out. Harder.
Both needing each other.
Starting to slip off each other’s clothes. Ian led Marina to the bedroom, closing the front door with his foot. He didn’t know what this meant but he just wanted to be close to Marina tonight and every night after that.
